Claim to Fame

Six months ago, if you googled my name, it would come up on the very first page. I think it still might but it's creeping further down the page. Soon it will be gone completely. The reason it even comes up is because of this essay:

I wrote it about my Mom and it was published last year in an LDS literary journal. I'm linking it to my blog as my claim to fame. OK, that, and I haven't written anything else lately.

This essay is so beautiful. Mom tied her quilts but I still treasure them. Elizabeth has one we call the Heater. It was an old quilt that Mom re-covered in new fabric. Black and powder blue. I thought it was so ugly--it was--but the kids fought over it because it was so darn warm and because...you guessed it...because Grandma made it. Thanks for the beautiful story that gave me a great memory.

You are a fantastic writer!

What a wonderful, heartwarming story. It brings back lots of memories for me, too. Sounds like your mom was always behind the camera, like mine. I have no pictures of us together because it was always either she or me taking them. I tell people now to PLEASE get in front of the lense sometimes so your kids don't have to TRY to remember what you looked like doing everyday things.

I have afghans (sp? it's late!) my mom made. I know the feeling of trying to smell her scent on them.

We have much in common. I'm glad I found your blog. Thanks for sharing.

Your writing was so wonderful and very touching. I have always had a love for homemade quilts because of what they mean. I have one from my Grandma who has been gone a long time. Just wrapping up in it can make me feel like a big hug. I am sorry for your loss!

Iwould like to get enough vocabulary to explain my feeling after reading your essay. Just like the reader(me or the others) was next to your family, feeling the emotion of that moment. You said you haven't write since that. But some people will never write anything so moving in their entire life!

This may not be your thing at all, but come over to my site and look at the show and tell friday theme. lots of bloggers participate and it is a good way to visit and be visited. Your quilt would make a good show and tell post...Jennifer

This is a beautiful story about your mother. It is definately first page google worthy! :)

Thank you for visiting my blog, it is nice to meet you and your family. I was getting a pretty good chuckle at your daughter and the swim suit...and then the flip flops! I am beyond ready for spring!

I read your essay, and it made me cry again - in a good way!
We have no real tradition of quilting over here - no idea why - but it sounds great.

I wandered here through Damama's page, and I'm glad I came.

Wow! You're story brought tears to my eyes. I hope you have many more years with your quilt to help you remember your mother.

(I also followed Damama over here.)
